SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR THE 2024 ASSOCIATION OF NAVAL SERVICES
OFFICERS (ANSO) WESTERN REGION, LEADER AND PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT SYMPOSIUM (WRS) NOMINATIONS
1. This ALCOAST announces ANSO is accepting nominations for the
ANSO Leadership Awards. The awards will be presented at the ANSO
Western Region Symposium, scheduled for 3-5 December, 2024 in
Miramar, CA.
2. ANSO awards recognize outstanding talent who embody high
professional standards and uphold the ANSO core values of
leadership, excellence, and dedication.
3. Nomination categories are as follows:
a. EL Buen Timonel Or "Good Helmsman "Award for Outstanding
Leadership.
(1) This award recognizes Junior Enlisted (E3 to E6) of
the sea services and U.S. Service Academy Cadets who have displayed
high professional standards in their line of service, while
maintaining personal toughness and readiness. Nominees should
also have mentored people of all ranks, as well as youth,
with generosity. Chapters may also submit applications for
reservists or those who have transitioned honorably from military
pay grades to civilian.
b. "LA Cresta DE LA OLA" or "The Crest of The Wave" Award for
Persistent Commitment to Excellence.
(1) This award recognizes junior officers (O1 to O4) and
civilians (GS5 to GS12) of the sea services, who have made a
continuous commitment to personal and professional improvement,
have a transformative command readiness force, and is actively
involved in ANSO's mission. To stay on "the Crest of the Wave"
requires mastery and persistence. Candidates for this award are
change agents ready to incorporate process improvement initiatives
to increase the lethality of the forces. Chapters may also submit
applications for reservists or those who have transitioned
honorably from military pay grades to civilian.
c. "Contra Viento Y Marea" or "Against All Odds" Award for
Consistent Dedication.
(1) This award recognizes Senior Enlisted (E7 and above),
Senior Officers (O5 and above), and Senior Civilians (GS13 or
above) of the Sea Services. The "Against all Odds" award celebrates
the contributions of our senior leaders to our nation, to the Armed
Forces, and to the Hispanic community. Those who reach senior
positions in leadership encounter many challenges and overcome
obstacles serving as beacons of hope to their mentees. Navigating
against the winds and seas in consistent dedication. Chapters may
also submit applications on behalf of civilians who have
transitioned or honorably retired.
d. "Pensar Mas Alla" or "Thinking Outside The Box" Award for
Innovation in The Art of War.
(1) This award recognizes active duty and reserve service
members who display a spirit of innovation reflected in better
thinking inside (leveraging given resources) and outside
(recognizing better ways to implement resources and modify) the
box, "pensando y creando más allá de los límites." This award
celebrates the innovating drive common in the Hispanic American
mindset and closely connected to the American spirit.
e. "Primera Clase" or "First Rate" Award for Excellence in
Operational Competence.
(1) This award recognizes active duty and reserve service
members who display problem solving abilities and represent ANSO
Core Values; exemplifying strong operational planning and problem
solving skills in the execution of respective duties. The term First
Rate denotes excellence and was attributed to the ships with the
most capabilities and outstanding performance during maritime
battles.
