SUBJ: THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EMERGENCY MANAGERS (IAEM)
CIVILIAN EMERGENCY MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNER
1. I am pleased to announce the winner of the Civilian IAEM
Emergency Manager of the Year award recipient. The IAEM Awards
Program honors individuals who have made special or significant
contributions to the field of emergency management. Amidst an
evolving crisis landscape and increasing complexity of disasters,
it is crucial to recognize emergency managers who are maximizing
unit preparedness, cultivating relationships with response
partners, and furthering the Coast Guard's ability to lead in
crisis.
2. Congratulations to Mr. Kenneth C. Jones, Emergency Management
Specialist from Sector Charleston, for being selected as the 2024
IAEM Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year Award winner. Mr. Jones
is truly an emergency management expert with numerous
accomplishments and professional certifications. Mr. Jones is
credentialed as an IAEM Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), ICS,
FEMA, and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program
instructor, an ICS Type 1/2 Board Member, and a college professor
instructing on a variety of Emergency Management topics. During the
award period, Mr. Jones served as the lead for multiple local,
state, and federal organization plan and policy developments,
reviews, and rewrites. A consummate training leader and networking
facilitator, he streamlined Sector Charleston and MSU Savannah
SELRES member participation and support, maximizing attendance
during multiple full-scale and functional exercises, leading to 47
new qualifications for reserve personnel. Not satisfied with that,
he coordinated with all unit and subunit leaders to efficiently and
effectively train CG staff, resulting in the completion of 75 ICS
qualifications. Lastly, Mr. Jones displayed an uncanny ability to
network with key local, state, and national other government
agencies and non-government organizations to meet mission demands.
He skillfully partnered with the South Carolina EM Division to
co-sponsor multiple ICS position specific command and general staff
training courses, training over 100 personnel.
3. The mission of IAEM is to advance the emergency management
profession by promoting its principles and to serve its members by
providing information, networking, and professional development
opportunities. The Coast Guard awardee will be honored in front of
their peers during the IAEM Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado in
November.
