1. Happy Birthday and congratulations to the United States Navy
on 249 years of service to our nation.
2. On 13 October 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution
to establish the United States Navy with "a swift sailing vessel,
to carry ten carriage guns, and a proportionable number of swivels,
with eighty men, be fitted, with all possible dispatch, for a cruise
of three months..." Since that time, the Navy has protected our
shores and national interests, ensuring the American way of life.
The Navy's unrivaled prowess, professionalism at sea, and bravery
have kept our homeland safe through challenges as varied world war,
global terrorism and great power competition.
