(JPO) PILOT SOLICITATION
A. Military Assignments and Authorized Absences, COMDTINST 1000.8A
1. UAS JPO is a DHS program currently employing four Coast Guard
Pilots and nine Sensor Operators in San Angelo, TX. Since 2008,
all pilot assignments have been restricted to military trained
pilots. This solicitation is opening the pilot assignment to any
CG member (commissioned, warrant, or enlisted) who meets the
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations
(AMO) eligibility requirements.
2. Eligibility:
    a. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial
Instrument rating
    b. Eligible for an FAA class 2 medical certificate
    c. At least 1000 flight hours in manned aircraft
    d. Eligible for Secret clearance
3. Assignment to UAS JPO San Angelo, TX is a unique opportunity
to support Maritime Domain Awareness. Pilots assigned to the JPO
act as pilot in command of MQ9 Long Range UAS variants. CG pilots
follow Air and Marine Operations shift work plan with three,
eight-hour shifts covering 24 hours, five days a week. This could
expand to seven days a week in the future. During these shifts,
pilots alternate in the Ground Control Station flying MQ9s on a
two-hours in, two-hours out rotation. Pilots maintain FAA and
CG manned aircraft requirements in a contract civilian aircraft
scheduled during their regular shifts. This assignment comes with
advanced professional development and training opportunities not
normally received at other units around the CG. For a better
understanding of UAS JPO expectations, please contact
LCDR Joseph Chevalier or CDR David Middleton.
4. Application: Applicants must apply to the open JPO pilot
position on the AY25 shopping list. In DA comments explicitly
state total hours, confirm instrument rating, and eligibility

eligibility, recommendation of approval, and address backfill
concerns if not tour complete. No additional narrative required.
