1. REF (A) announced the approval and creation of the Special
Agent Insignia.
2. This ALCOAST announces the promulgation of REF (B).
3. REF (C) shall be updated to include a reference to the Special
Agent Insignia COMDTINST and the criteria to earn the Special
Agent Insignia.
4. The Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) ensures the
internal and external integrity of the Coast Guard by supporting
and protecting personnel and assets and conducting criminal
investigations and operations worldwide. The Special Agent Insignia
recognizes members who have gained the skills and experience
necessary to prevent and defeat criminal threats under the
cognizance of the Coast Guard.
5. Members who meet the eligibility requirement for temporary or
permanent entitlement of the Special Agent Insignia as outlined in
REF (B) are authorized to route the Special Agent Insignia request
form through their chain of command to the issuing authority. The
request form can be downloaded from the CGIS SharePoint site,
located under CG-CGIS-MS; Special Agent Insignia tab:

6. For permanent entitlement, the Special Agent Insignia certificate
must be signed and issued by the issuing authority. The CGIS
office's servicing Personnel and Administration Office (P&A) must
record the award of the insignia in Direct Access. Civilian
recipients will retain the certificate as a record of receiving the
decoration. For the temporary entitlement, an Administrative Remarks
Form CG-3307 entry must be made, and the template can be downloaded
from the CGIS SharePoint Site.
7. The insignia and symbolism of the device can be found in REF (B).
Production of the full-sized uniform devices and miniature devices
are being coordinated with commercial vendors.
