SUBJ: CDR GRETAL KINNEY CITED FOR EXCELLENCE
1. The Coast Guard congratulates Commander (CDR) Gretal Kinney,
Office Deputy, Gender Policy Advisor, Office of Diversity &
Inclusion, (DCMS-DPR-4), on her selection for the Federally
Employed Women (FEW) Military Meritorious Service Award for
the Coast Guard. FEW recognized CDR Kinney for her achievements
during the performance period of 1 January 2023 to
31 December 2023.
2. Exemplifying support, guidance, and advocacy, CDR Kinney is
committed to creating policies and implementing initiatives that
support an equitable and modern Coast Guard workforce. In her role,
CDR Kinney advised top leadership, including the Commandant and
Vice Commandant, on diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies
that impacted over 80,000 personnel. She led several impactful
projects including the publication of the Coast Guard's Women's
Policy Guide and development of the Service's next Diversity,
Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility strategic plan, and she
organized a ceremony that honored the 50th Anniversary of
Integrating Women into the Service. She is also a member of the
Directed Actions Working Group helping to carry out Accountability
Transparency Review Directives, and serves as the Coast Guard
liaison to the Advisory Board on Women; her dedication is paramount
to ensuring the success and well-being of women across the
organization.
3. CDR Kinney's commitment to advancing equitable and inclusive
policies greatly improves the Coast Guard's performance and helps
create a fair and supportive environment for the total workforce.
FEW will recognize CDR Kinney at their 55th Annual National
Training Program in Chicago, IL on 6 August 2024.
4. Civil Rights awards help maximize the Coast Guard's overall
mission effectiveness through recognition of members'
accomplishments and contributions to Civil Rights and Equal
