1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special Assignment during their career. These career broadening assignments provide members valuable opportunities to represent their ratings, network, and learn about other operational and mission support activities, making them ideal candidates for future assignments to highly visible leadership and management positions (e.g. Silver Badge, OIC, School Chief).
2. Recruit Company Commander (RCC) Duty:
a. Duty as a RCC is one of the most challenging and rewarding assignments in the Coast Guard. On any given day, RCCs will lead, inspire, and mentor 100 plus recruits through the rigors of basic training. RCCs
serve as role models who exhibit the highest moral and ethical conduct, embody our core values and exhibit exemplary grooming and fitness standards.
3. Qualification as an RCC requires successful completion of a “C” School followed by a lengthy onboarding process. It can take up to a year to complete the full qualification process. Members should expect to complete the full 3-year tour prior to rotating.
4. Prospective RCC Resources:
a. The Prospective Company Commander Teams Page is a direct line to the RCC Recruitment Team who can answer any questions prospective RCCs or their Commands may have. The RCC Recruitment Team hosts webinars, and the page contains numerous resources. The Prospective RCC Teams Page can be accessed via this Link.
b. Training Center Cape May's (TCCM) Facebook page highlights ongoing recruit training and Company Commander experiences. Search for "U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May" on Facebook.
c. TCCM provides regiment tours to prospective RCCs, please reach out
TRACENCapeMay-CC-Outreach@uscg.mil to coordinate a tour.
4. Eligibility:
a. Must be tour complete in AY25 or AY26. Members effected by the Force Alignment Initiative may request a tour completion waiver in their Command Endorsement.
b. Must be an active duty E5 – E7.
c. Meet the requirements listed in reference (B), CH 1.E.2 and 1.E.8.
d. Meet the requirements listed in reference (C), Part 2, CH 4.C.1.
5. Process/timeline:
a. NLT 25 AUG 2024: Standard applications are emailed to EPM-2 at HQS-SMB-PSC-EPM-2-SpecialAssignments@uscg.mil and 'My Panel Submissions' for the Leadership Special Assignment Positions (LSAP) are submitted in Direct Access.
b. OOA 05 SEP - 15 SEP 2024: TRACEN CAPE MAY interviews applicants.
c. OOA 07 OCT 2024: Selection panel convenes.
d. OOA 18 OCT 2024: Panel results released.
e. OOA JAN - MAY 2025: Window to attend RCC Class "C" School.
f. 01 JUL 2025: Expected report date.
g. Should additional candidates be required throughout the AY; a solicitation will be released, and selections made IAW reference (A).
6. Standard Application:
a. Members and Commands should pay close attention to the requirements listed in the standard application found at reference (A). Incomplete or improperly formatted applications will be returned. Deadline extensions will not be granted to correct errors.
7. The Special Assignments Assignment Officer (AO) will coordinate the release from rating process. Applicants should not contact their AO asking if they can be released from rating.
