SUBJ: SELECTION OF THE NEXT CHAPLAIN OF THE UNITED STATES
COAST GUARD
1. I am pleased to announce the selection of Captain Jennifer
Bowden, Chaplain Corps, USN, as the next Chaplain of the Coast
Guard.
2. A native of Tampa, Florida, CAPT Bowden received her Bachelor
of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University, a Masters
of Divinity degree from Emory University, and a Doctorate of
Ministry from Wesley Seminary, Washington, DC. She is ordained
through the United Methodist Church.
3. As a Navy Chaplain, she has served around the world in a variety
of Navy and Marine Corps commands, including deployments to Iraq
and throughout the Pacific. CAPT Bowden comes well prepared to care
for Coast Guard members, having served at the Coast Guard Academy,
First Coast Guard District, Sector Southeastern New England, and
most recently as the Eighth Coast Guard District Chaplain.
4. CAPT Bowden will assume her duties this summer following her
current assignment as the Force Chaplain for Commander, Naval

5. CAPT Bowden will lead an outstanding team of active duty,
reserve, and auxiliary chaplains throughout the Coast Guard that
serve the moral, spiritual and mental health needs of our workforce
and their families. I know her incredible pastoral experience and
moral leadership over the course of her 23-year military career
will serve our Coast Guard well.
