SUBJ: IMPLEMENTATION OF THE COAST GUARD'S ONLINE WORLD OF LEARNING
(CG-OWL) - 10 JUNE LAUNCH
A. COMCOGARD FORCECOM NORFOLK VA 022008Z FEB 24/ALCOAST 055/24
1. As a follow up to REF (A), this ALCOAST announces the official
launch date of the Coast Guard's new Online World of Learning
(CG-OWL) and provides guidance on initial user access and support.
CG-OWL replaces our legacy Learning Management System (LMS), and
utilizes a Moodle framework, the same approach that many other
corporations and educational institutions across the country
presently have taken to online learning. CG-OWL will provide easily
accessible, reliable, and on-demand education and training, with
the potential to house dynamic tools to meet present and future
needs of the workforce. Additional communications on CG-OWL will
be forthcoming via MyCG, FORCECOM and DCMS Facebook sites, and
other venues.
2. All mandated training requirements and courses available remain
the same, but users will access their needed training material via
CG-OWL beginning 10 JUNE 2024. Users will notice a new look and feel
as they access familiar training in a more modernized and capable
software system. Similar to the legacy LMS, CG-OWL will report
completion of mandated training to CGBI, and will also generate a
course completion record within CG-OWL.
3. On 10 JUNE 2024, the legacy LMS will no longer be used for online
training. Additionally, the legacy LMS training transcripts will not
transfer to CG-OWL. Users will need to download and save their
transcripts from the legacy LMS before 30 SEPT 2024 to preserve
their learning history. In the next iteration of CG-OWL, we are
working to import legacy LMS transcripts into CG-OWL.
4. Users can access CG-OWL by clicking on the CG-OWL icon on the
pixel dashboard.
a. Log in is enabled through Single Sign-On (SSO) with a Common
Access Card (CAC)
b. Upon first logging into CG-OWL, the system may prompt some
users to enter their Coast Guard email address. This should only
occur upon initial login.
c. Training resources for navigating and using CG-OWL, as well as
specific instructions on how to download legacy LMS transcripts are
