SUBJ: AY25 CEREMONIAL HONOR GUARD SOLICITATION

1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special
Assignment during their career. These career broadening assignments
provide members valuable opportunities to represent their ratings,
network, and learn about other operational and mission support activities,
making them ideal candidates for future assignments to highly visible
leadership and management positions (e.g. Silver Badge, OIC, School Chief).
2. This message solicits candidates and outlines the application process
for members interested in Ceremonial Honor Guard duty in AY25. This is a
2-year assignment opportunity with Assignment Priority 2 upon successful
completion of the tour.
3. Members of the Ceremonial Honor Guard are official Coast Guard
representatives in various national events and military ceremonies to
include parades, funerals, White House Presidential support, international
and domestic dignitary arrivals, as well as the presentation of colors at
local functions and official ceremonies. The Honor Guard is a highly
visible assignment that offers numerous rewarding leadership challenges
and opportunities. The Honor Guard is an ideal assignment for highly
motivated petty officers looking to further their development as leaders
as they serve the dual purpose of both developing the Honor Guard junior
enlisted personnel while leading them in ceremonies before the world's
highest-ranking leaders. To be successful, Honor Guard petty officers must
be role models of the highest moral and ethical character, and embody our
core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty. Additionally, they
must be physically fit and exhibit exemplary uniform appearance, maturity,
even temperament, sound judgment, and diplomacy.
4. Eligibility:
a. Tour complete in MUST be Tour Complete in AY25, AY26, or AY27 Members
effected by the Force Alignment Initiative may request a tour completion
waiver in their Command Endorsement.
b. All active duty E5s, E6s or E7s (not above the cut for E8) before
application deadline.
c. Meet the requirements listed in reference (A), CH 1.E.2 and 1.E.11.
5. Process/timeline:
a. NLT 12 JUL 2024: Standard applications are emailed to EPM-2 at
HQS-SMB-PSC-EPM-2-SpecialAssignments@uscg.mil.
b. OOA 15 - 26 JUL 2024: CHG interviews applicants.
c. OOA 02 AUG 2024: Selection results are released via email.
d. The expected report date is 01 JUL 2025.
6. Standard Applications: Members and Commands should pay close attention
to the requirements listed in the standard application found at reference
(B). Incomplete or improperly formatted applications will be returned.
Deadline extensions will not be granted to correct errors.
7. The Special Assignments Assignment Officer (AO) will coordinate the
release from rating process. Applicants should not contact their AO asking
if they can be released from rate.
