SUBJ: APRIL 2024 IS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS AND PREVENTION
MONTH (SAAPM)
1. The Coast Guard is pleased to join the Department
of Defense (DoD) in recognizing the SAAPM theme: "STEP FORWARD.
Prevent. Report. Advocate." This year's SAAPM theme is a call to
action and offers numerous opportunities to message. Prevention and
awareness events will utilize this message consistent with DoD and
Coast Guard guidelines. Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs)
are directed to use the STEP FORWARD logo for digital and print
media to maximize the effectiveness of the campaign. Coast Guard
personnel are encouraged to consider what "STEP FORWARD. Prevent.
Report. Advocate." means to them.
2. SARCs will report all SAAPM activities and related event
participation numbers within their AOR to the Health, Safety and
Work-Life Service Center (HSWL-SC) no later than 13 May 2024.
3. Bystander Intervention Training (BIT) can be one component of
SAAPM. Commands are highly encouraged to contact their SARC for any
questions or to schedule BIT for their unit, or reference ALCOAST
120-24 for further details.
4. The Coast Guard will continue to promote recovery awareness
within SAAPM activities. Our recovery line of effort sets our
Service apart from other Services. Victims are encouraged to
prioritize wellness and commands are reminded of the importance of
resourcing and supporting recovery.
5. Units are encouraged to contact their local SARC for all SAAPM
related events. The SARC directory is available at:
