1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special
Assignment (SA) during their career. These career broadening assignments
provide members valuable opportunities to represent their ratings,
network, and learn about other operational and mission support
activities. Furthermore, serving in a SA increases your selection
potential for future highly visible leadership and management
positions (e.g. Silver Badge, OIC, and School Chief).
2. This message solicits candidates and outlines the application
process for members interested in a special duty assignment at the
Leadership Development Center (LDC) aboard the Coast Guard Academy
as the Officer Candidate School (OCS) Company Chief in AY24. This is
a four-year assignment opportunity.
3. This impactful billet is vital to officer candidate academic,
leadership, and military aptitude development for more than 50% of
the Coast Guard’s annual newly commissioned officer corps. The OCS
Company Chief is a high visibility position with frequent flag
interaction. The member selected for this position must set the
highest standards for professional presence and possess the ability
to mentor prior enlisted and new accessions to become officers. The
selectee will have the ability to profoundly influence the next
generation of officers. The OCS Company Chief will also assist with
development, mentoring, and coaching the Junior Officers on staff.
This demonstrates the importance of having a strong Chief’s
Mess/Wardroom connection.
