1. This ALCOAST establishes updates to AED policy while REF (A)
and (G) are being revised. As outlined in REFs (A) through (G),
specific Coast Guard entities such as fire houses, PSUs, cutters
with assigned Independent Duty Health Services Technicians, Air
Stations, and diving units are authorized to carry and use AEDs.
    a. Non-aviation CG units using AEDs as outlined in REFs (B),
(D), (E) and (G) are authorized to use any AED approved by the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
    b. Per REF (C) CG Air Stations are permitted to carry and use
AEDs as long as they use internal batteries as the sole power
supply and are non-transmitting. The Pilot-in-Command is authorized
to make the determination.
2. All units not included within paragraph one may
implement AED programs only after coordinating with Health, Safety
and Work-Life Service Center Operational Medicine Division to ensure
their AED programs comply with applicable with REFs (B) and (G) AED
policy. REF (G) is pending updates. REFs (B) and (G) can be found on
the link below:

3. Units that are not covered by REFs (B) through (G) or do not
have an approved AED program must either establish one as indicated
in paragraph two or cease the use and carriage of AEDs. Any
policies not addressed specifically in this ALCOAST remain
unchanged.
4. REF (A) will be updated to reflect these changes and will be
released within the next year.
5. This message will be cancelled on 26 MAR 2025.
