SUBJ: 2024 SOCIETY OF AMERICAN INDIAN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES (SAIGE)
MILITARY MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD
1. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Society of
American Indian Government Employees (SAIGE) Military Meritorious
Service Award.
2. The annual recognition honors the service and accomplishments of
Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve service members and military
veterans in government who made significant contributions according
to the criteria below during the performance period of January 1,
2023 to December 31, 2023.
     a. Promoted a positive image of American Indians/Alaskan Natives
(AI/AN) within government service (federal, state, local, tribal, or
governmental agency/entity).
     b. Contributed to and encouraged a greater understanding of the
AI/AN culture through both on- and off-duty activities.
     c. Supported governmental agency interactions, activities, or
events with AI/AN people or tribes.
     d. Reflected attributes epitomizing the best qualities and core
values of their respective military service branch or government
agency.
3. Anyone within the Coast Guard may nominate an individual who
meets the eligibility requirements outlined in Paragraph 2 and who
has not previously won the SAIGE Military Meritorious Service Award.
All previous award winners are ineligible for nomination unless the
nominee has left military service and is now a veteran employed by a
federal, state, local, or tribal government, tribal services, or
other governmental agency or entity.
4. To nominate an individual, please submit a complete nomination
package to the POC in Paragraph 7. Each part of the nomination
package (listed below) must be submitted as a separate file with
each electronically named as indicated. Except for the photo, each
file must be submitted in PDF format, single-spaced, 12-point, Times
New Roman font and 1-inch left and right margins. The package must
not include Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Requirements
for a complete nomination package include:
     a. Command cover memo, with signature, forwarding the package.
Please name the electronic file using the following: Nominee's
abbreviated rank and last name – CoverMemo.pdf.
     b. Award Nomination Transmittal Form. Please contact the POC in
paragraph 7 to request a form. For nominations of a veteran, a
supervisor must verify that the nominee was honorably discharged,
provide a copy of the nominee's DD 214 with no visible Social
Security Number (SSN), and attach to the nomination package. File
name: Nominee's abbreviated rank and last name -Transmittal.pdf.
     c. Award narrative describing the nominee's accomplishments
warranting the recognition specific to the award (not to exceed two
pages). File name: Nominee's abbreviated rank and last name –
Narrative.pdf.
     d. Biography of the nominee which includes the nominee's tribal
membership or AI/AN ancestry, if applicable (not to exceed one
page). Note: An individual does need to have tribal membership or
AI/AN ancestry to be considered for the award. The award package
must demonstrate the nominee's contributions to Native American
culture and investments in inclusion and diversity within their
workforce. File name: Nominee's abbreviated rank and last name –
Biography.pdf.
     e. Citation highlighting the nominee's accomplishments (not to
exceed 12 lines). File name: Nominee's abbreviated rank and last
name – Citation.pdf.
     f. Digital photograph of the nominee in .jpg format (no bigger
than 2 mb in size). File name: Nominee's abbreviated rank and last
name – Picture.jpg.
     g. If appropriate, copy of veteran nominee's DD 214 with no
visible SSN. File name: Nominee's last name – RedactedDD214.pdf.
5. Nomination packages must be forwarded as email attachments to the
POC in Paragraph 7 no later than April 1, 2024, at 5 p.m. Eastern.
6. COMDT (CG-00H) will, after review and vetting, send all
nominations to SAIGE for consideration and final selection. SAIGE
will notify commands of award winners prior to the Coast Guard
announcing winners via ALCOAST. SAIGE will recognize award winners
at the National Training Program on June 6, 2024, in Spokane, WA.
