1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special
Assignment during their career. These career broadening assignments
provide members valuable opportunities to represent their ratings,
network, and learn about other operational and mission support activities,
making them ideal candidates for future assignments to highly visible
leadership and management positions (e.g. Silver Badge, OIC, School Chief).
2. This message solicits candidates and outlines the application process
for members interested in a special duty assignment at Training Center
Cape May, NJ as the Battalion Commander. This is a three-year assignment
opportunity.
3. Battalion Commander (BC) duty is one of the most important,
demanding, and rewarding assignments in the Coast Guard. On any given
day, the BC will lead, inspire and mentor at the individual and
organizational level while simultaneously overseeing the training of
650 plus recruits and supervising 56 Company Commanders (CCs). The BC
sets the tone, leading the CCs, whose impact on recruits at this initial
stage in their careers is critical. The ideal BC is career diverse with
a strong record demonstrating outstanding communication skills, partnership,
and accountability.
4. EPM-2 is soliciting all Master and Senior Chief Petty Officers,
who meet the eligibility requirements listed in paragraph (5) for
the following position:

5. Eligibility:
a. Tour Complete in AY24 (not in receipt of orders), AY25, or AY26.
b. Paygrade: E9, E8, or E7 (above the cut for E8) at time of application.
c. Prior Company Commander preferred but not required.
d. Meet the minimum requirements outlined in Ref (A), Articles 1.E.2
and 1.E.8.
6. Application:
a. NLT 16 FEB 2024: Command endorsement emailed to
HQS-SMB-PSC-EPM-2-SpecialAssignments@uscg.mil.
b. OOA 19 - 23 FEB 2024: TRACEN Cape May interviews applicants.
c. OOA 26 FEB 2024: Applicant selection results released via email.
d. The expected report date is 01 JUL 2024.
7. Command interview and endorsement:
a. Commanding Officers shall interview applicants to ensure eligibility
requirements in paragraph (5) are met.
b. Command endorsement must include required information in
Ref (A) Article 1.E.8.c.
8. The Special Assignments Officer will handle the release from rating
process. Applicants should not contact their detailer asking if they
can be released from rate.
