1. The Office of Leadership, (DCMS-DPR-5) is accepting nominations
for the 2024 Coast Guard Inspirational Leadership Awards and Navy
League Leadership Awards. Commands and staff directorates are
invited and encouraged to submit nominations for each of these
prestigious awards. The awards recognize Coast Guard personnel who
have demonstrated outstanding leadership, fostered a culture of
diversity, mentored others, and led by example while exemplifying
the Coast Guard's Core Values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to
Duty during the 2023 calendar year.
2. Selecting and recognizing high performing leaders is a service
imperative, supports individual and unit development, as well as
Coast Guard retention and recruitment efforts. Being nominated
for or winning these awards should positively impact future
personnel reviews, assignments, and promotions and advancements.
Historically, previous winners have gone on to significant
leadership roles across the organization. Nominating commands are
encouraged to document nominations and selections using all
appropriate methods such as a positive 3307, personnel awards, OERs
and EERs, and/or with a citation.
3. The deadline for submission of nominations is Wednesday,
14 FEB 2024.
4. Nominations are being accepted for the following Inspirational
Leadership Awards:
    a. CAPT John G. Witherspoon (Officers, Active Duty and Reserve)
    b. MCPO Angela M. McShan (E-7 Active Duty and Reserve)
    c. Mr. George R. Putnam (Civilian Appropriated or
Non-Appropriated)
    d. COMO Charles S. Greanoff (Auxiliary Flotilla Commander)
5. In addition, nominations are being accepted for the following
Navy League Leadership Awards:
    a. CAPT David H. Jarvis (Officer Active Duty), and
    b. SM1 Douglas A. Munro (Enlisted Active Duty)
6. Winners will receive the following:
    a. E-6 and below Douglas A. Munro Navy League Leadership Award
winner will receive a merit advancement. If the winner is advanced
to E-7, the member will be required to remain on active duty for two
years from the effective date of their advancement per 3.A.21.c of
REF (B).
    b. All winners will receive a congratulatory call from the
Commandant & Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard.
    c. Inspirational Leadership Awards winners will receive an
engraved trophy.
    d. Navy League Leadership Award winners will attend the annual
Navy League convention, receive a certificate signed by the
Commandant, and an award code will be placed into their record in
Direct Access.
7. The policy for these awards is outlined in REF (A); however,
detailed eligibility requirements and specific nomination guidelines
are outlined on the DCMS-DPR-5 website:

    a. Nominations must clearly outline examples and challenges,
specific actions and accomplishments, and the impact that speak to
the award's criteria.
    b. Commands should include specific examples of exceptional
leadership that includes coaching, mentoring, volunteering, and
community service outside of the nominee's Coast Guard duties in the
nomination.
    c. Nominations should clearly indicate whether candidates are
Active Duty or a Reserve member.
    d. Strict adherence to the eligibility requirements and guidelines
is required; any incomplete package received will not be considered.

9. A panel will be convened In March 2024 to select the winners and
runners up. Winners, runners up, and nominating units will be
announced via ALCOAST.
