1. This ALCOAST establishes US Navy (USN) aeromedical physical
standards, waiver guidelines, and references as the primary resource
for determination of flight duty for CG aviation personnel (except
student pilots, as described in paragraph 2). If medical conditions
are not covered or adequately addressed in REF (A), or if specific
CG operational needs dictate, other DoD services' aeromedical waiver
guidelines may also be used as secondary sources. REFs (B) through
(D), Coast Guard Aeromedical Policy Letters, and USCG Aeromedical
Technical Bulletins are no longer valid references for CG aviation
medicine. REF (A) can be found on the following website:

Guide/
2. CG student pilots and CG pilot applicants must strictly meet the
standards and waiver guidelines of the service from which they get
their initial pilot training. Currently student CG pilots are
trained with the USN, and thus need to meet USN aeromedical
standards or have an approved aeromedical waiver, based on USN
guidelines, granted by the CG and approved by a Naval
Aerospace Medical Institute (NAMI) review before starting their
training. After designation as CG pilots, the policy in paragraph
1 of this ALCOAST applies to these pilots.
3. In the next revision of REFs (B) & (C) USCG aeromedical providers
will be directed to USN standards and guidelines, as described
above.
4. This message will be cancelled on 18 OCT 2024.
