SUBJ: LIEUTENANT CONNER CITED FOR EXCELLENCE
1. Lieutenant (LT) Avierre Conner, Marine Inspector, USCG Sector
New Orleans, is the Coast Guard (CG) recipient of the 2023 Blacks
in Government (BIG) Military Meritorious Service Award.
2. LT Conner served as a passionate catalyst for advancing inclusion
through recruiting, retaining, and developing members of
underrepresented communities within the Coast Guard. As President of
the National Naval Officer Association (NNOA) - Bayou Chapter - LT
Conner undertook a voluntary role dedicated to cultivating and
optimizing a diverse officer corps. His collaborative endeavors
extended beyond the chapter to the local maritime industry, Coast
Guard recruiting offices, and Minority Serving Institutions to help
meet the Commandant's strategic objective of transforming the total
workforce. Conner spearheaded numerous recruiting events and career
expositions that offered matriculating and prospective college
students valuable insights into career opportunities with the Coast
Guard. Additionally, as a Genesis Council Junior Officer Forum
Session member, LT Conner mentored over 30 cadets, which helped them
navigate first-tour expectations, overcome challenges, and explore
career paths.
3. The Coast Guard commends Lieutenant Conner for his outstanding
contributions, achievements, and exemplary service. BIG recognized
Conner at its 44th Annual National Training Program in National
Harbor, Maryland, on August 29, 2023.
