SUBJ: NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: WE ARE ALL, WE ARE ONE
1. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15
to October 15 each year to recognize the contributions that Hispanic
individuals and communities have made to our Nation's society,
economy, culture, and military. The month-long period holds deep
significance as these dates encompass the independence days of
several Latin American countries.
2. This year's theme, "Todos Somos, Somos Uno: We Are All, We Are
One," illustrates the objective of unity in diversity. The names of
Hispanic Sentinels including Seaman Apprentice William Ray "Billy"
Flores, Fireman Heriberto Hernandez, Petty Officer Joseph Tezanos,
and Chief Boatswain's Mate Pablo Valent are emblazoned on Fast
Response Cutters (FRCs) to honor their service to our Nation. Along
with their other enlisted hero FRC namesakes, they show that while
we all may come from different backgrounds, we are all connected by
our shared mission and core values.
3. As we celebrate Hispanic heritage, remember that unity stems from
the embrace of diverse perspectives. Our differences strengthen our
collective foundation. I encourage the workforce to create and
participate in special observance events to learn more about our
Nation's Hispanic or Latino heritage and understand it as an
integral part of American history. Learning more about the cultures,
traditions, and stories that shape Hispanic or Latino communities
helps build an inclusive workforce. You can learn more
