SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR THE TRACEN CAPE MAY (TCCM) RECRUIT COMPANY
MENTOR PROGRAM
A. Military Assignments and Authorized Absences, COMDTINST
M1000.8A
1. This ALCOAST solicits applications for the FY24 Recruit Company
Mentor Program. The recruit company mentoring program is an
essential component in the development of our new shipmates. Mentors
meet with their Recruit Company at three points during the
eight-week recruit training period; first during week two (2), again
at week five (5), and attend their company's graduation ceremony.
We seek a diverse and robust pool of candidates to increase recruit
exposure to high-performing Officer and Enlisted leaders.
2. During the selection process, priority will be given to personnel
with recent operational experience at units with non-rates assigned,
strong records of performance, and good public speaking skills.
Mentors should be inspiring and able to facilitate conversations
with recruits. The program objective is to expose recruits contact
to members that can help answer questions and guide them through the
challenges and opportunities that they will soon face. Mentors
should anticipate a public speaking role at graduation.
3. Specific Mentor Application Requirements:
    a. Enlisted personnel must be: E-7 and above.
    b. Officers must be: CWO2-CWO4, O-3 and above.
    c. A combination of one (1) Officer and one (1) Enlisted member
from the same unit or geographic area may request to co-mentor a
recruit company.
    d. The following 2023 Coast Guard-wide award winners will be
reserved a mentor spot for FY-24: EPOY, Munro, McShan, Jarvis, and
Witherspoon award winners.
    e. Funding for mentor travel costs, to include award winners, is
at unit expense.
4. Given the typical level of interest in this unique opportunity
and the number of available companies, not all applicants for this
program will be selected. However, we do encourage members who were
not selected in previous years to re-apply this year. Commanding
Officers are strongly encouraged to support the participation of
selected recruit company mentors, and should provide a command
endorsement for their subordinate’s participation.
5. All interested candidates should submit their Recruit Company
Mentor applications via e-mail to the POC listed in paragraph 7
by 01 SEP 23. All qualified applicants will be considered by a
selection board held at TCCM and approved by the TCCM Commanding
Officer. All applicants will be notified of their selection status
via e-mail NLT 22 SEP 23.
