SUBJ: U.S. COAST GUARD SEARCH AND RESCUE (SAR) TACTICS, TECHNIQUES,
AND PROCEDURES (TTP) SERIES
A. The U.S. Coast Guard Addendum to the United States National
Search and Rescue Supplement (NSS) to the International Aeronautical
and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual (IAMSAR), COMDTINST 16130.2G
1. This ALCOAST announces the release of the Coast Guard Search and
Rescue (SAR) Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP) series.
2. The purpose of the SAR TTP is to establish functional "how to"
processes to guide the actions of SAR professionals. The intended
audience of TTP includes training systems personnel, Rescue
Coordination Center and Command Center personnel, SAR Mission
Coordinators, and persons holding Active Search Suspended authority.
3. SAR TTPs are neither policy nor a job aid. SAR TTPs provide
guidance and establish baseline mission management processes which
are incorporated into formal training and qualification programs.
TTPs may be referenced during mission coordination, but that is not
its principal function.
4. This ALCOAST introduces the first three SAR TTP publications:
a. CGTTP 3-50.3: Uncorrelated Distress Broadcasts and Alerts
b. CGTTP 3-50.4: Unmanned Adrift Vessels
c. CGTTP 3-50.5: Flare Sightings
5. SAR TTP publications are produced and maintained by COMDT
(CG-SAR) and can be accessed through FORCECOM's TTP library at
the following link:

6. Coast Guard SAR professionals are encouraged to develop local
TTP to address highly regionalized SAR response concerns. TTP which
should be considered for national publication may be submitted to
the standing SAR TTP workgroup through COMDT (CG-SAR-1) at
hqs-dg-lst-cg-sar-1@uscg.mil. All TTP submissions should follow the
approved TTP template available on the SAR Policy Portal Site at
