1. All members are highly encouraged to pursue at least one Special 

Assignment during their career. These career broadening assignments  

provide members valuable opportunities to represent their ratings,  

network, and learn about other operational and mission support  

activities, making them ideal candidates for future assignments to  

highly visible leadership and management positions (e.g. Silver Badge, 

OIC, School Chief). 

2. Recruit Company Commander (RCC): Duty as a RCC is one of the most  

challenging and rewarding assignments in the Coast Guard. On any given 

day, RCCs will lead, inspire, and mentor 100 plus recruits through the 

rigors of basic training. RCCs serve as role models who exhibit the  

highest moral and ethical conduct, embody our core values, and exhibit 

exemplary grooming and fitness standards.

4. Eligibility: 

a. Tour complete in AY24 or AY25. 

b. All active duty E5 - E7 (not above the cut for E8) and E4 (above 

the cut for E5) at the time of application.  

c. Meets the requirements listed in reference (B), CH 1.E.2 and 1.E.8. 

d. Meets the requirements listed in reference (C), Part 2, CH 4.D.1. 

5. Process/timeline: 

a. NLT 25 AUG 2023: Standard applications are emailed to EPM-2 at  

HQS-SMB-PSC-EPM-2-SpecialAssignments@uscg.mil and 'My Panel 

Submissions' for the Leadership Special Assignment Positions (LSAP) 

are submitted in Direct Access.  

b. OOA 05 SEP - 15 SEP 2023: TRACEN CAPE MAY interviews applicants.  

c. OOA 25 SEP - 29 SEP 2023: Selection panel convenes. 

d. OOA 06 OCT 2023: Panel results released. 

e. OOA MAR - MAY 2024: Window to attend CC Class "C" School. 

f. 01 JUL 2024: Expected report date. 

6. Standard Application:  

Members and Commands should pay close attention to the requirements 

listed in the standard application found at reference (A). Incomplete 

or improperly formatted applications will be returned. Deadline  

extensions will not be granted to correct errors.  

7. The Special Assignments Officer will coordinate the release from  

rating process. Applicants should not contact their detailer asking  

if they can be released from rating.
