SUBJ: CAPT VAN CAMP CITED FOR EXCELLENCE
1. I am honored to announce and congratulate CAPT Eva Van Camp,
Commander, Sector Long Island Sound, on her selection as the Coast
Guard's 2023 Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC)
Uniformed Services Award recipient. CAPT Van Camp's remarkable
ability to lead by example resulted in her receiving this
well-deserved recognition.
2. CAPT Van Camp spearheaded various initiatives bringing about
positive impact and change to the Coast Guard, specifically to women
and underrepresented communities. She headed an inter-service
collaboration with the Merchant Marine Academy to identify
opportunities to improve command climates, and helped establish New
England chapters of the National Naval Officers Association (NNOA)
and Women Leadership Initiative (WLI) Group. Fostering an inclusive
workplace for over 1800 Coast Guard personnel, she proactively
organized an Equal Opportunity review at Sector Long Island Sound
that empowered employees to offer contributions and take part in
ongoing efforts to maintain a positive command climate. As a member
of the Coast Guard Academy's (CGA) Minority Outreach Team, she
promoted recruitment efforts to encourage a diverse student
population, supported the overall retention and career development
of 593 cadets, and inspired mentorship and inclusivity through her
direct involvement in the CGA's Asian Pacific American Club Affinity
Council. Additionally, she reinvigorated Sector Long Island Sounds'
community outreach and Partnership in Education program, enabling a
team of over 90 volunteers to connect with over 1900 students across
four schools and introduce students and teachers to Coast Guard
missions.
3. The Coast Guard commends CAPT Van Camp for her outstanding
contributions, achievements, and exemplary service. FAPAC will
recognize her at their 38th National Leadership Training Program in
Long Beach, CA on May 10, 2023.
4. Civil Rights awards help maximize the Coast Guard's overall
mission effectiveness through recognition of members'
accomplishments and contributions to Civil Rights and Equal
Opportunity and Partnership in Education (PIE) program. Learn more
