SUBJ: GREAT LAKES LEADERSHIP, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION SYMPOSIUM
1. The Great Lakes Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion Symposium
(GLLDIS), hosted by Sector Lake Michigan, will be held on 20-21 APR
2023 as a VIRTUAL event to those outside of the Ninth District.
Sector Lake Michigan has secured participants from the Great Lakes
area and beyond to provide a comprehensive regional forum on the
matters of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and mentorship
tailored to the Coast Guard's unique operational environment. This
year's theme is "Challenging the Status Quo."
2. GLLDIS is a recuring event and will be returning to Sector Lake
Michigan where it began as the Women's Leadership Symposium in 2014.
In 2019, was re-branded as GLLDIS by Sector Detroit and transitioned
from focusing solely on women's leadership to all aspects of
leadership and better integration of all Coast Guard personnel. It
also allowed the symposium to include the broader audience of all
District 9 and increased the scope of the event to multiple issues
pertaining to the widest possible audience. Recruitment and
retention are two of the biggest challenges facing today's Coast
Guard and are things that every member has the duty and capacity to
positively impact, regardless of rank. This symposium is dedicated
to imparting to our members the skills and knowledge to lead a
diverse workforce while remaining aware of potential difficulties
faced by those of underrepresented backgrounds and experiences, both
now and in the future. The slogan for GLLDIS is "Inform - Energize -
Inspire" and will showcase both top civilian and military presenters
and panelists in their respective fields of work.
3. The virtual event will be available to all Coast Guard members
and will be live streamed via Facebook from 0800 - 1630 on 20APR2023
and 0800 - 1315 on 21APR2023. The symposium can be accessed on
