A. Coast Guard Morale, Well‐Being and Recreation Manual,
COMDTINST M1710.13 (series)
1. I am pleased to announce the 2022 Coast Guard Elite Male and
Female Athletes of the Year.
2. The Coast Guard Elite Female Athlete of the Year is LCDR Jessica
Anderson, stationed at Coast Guard Headquarters, COMDT (CG‐5PS),
Washington, DC.
3. LCDR Anderson distinguished herself in the sport of running.
She is a prior award winner, with accomplishments in 2022 rivaling
her stellar 2013 performance. While competing nationwide, LCDR
Anderson finished first in her age group during the Parkway Classic
10 Miler (Alexandria, VA) and the Ironman Alaska (Juneau, AK) and
placed atop the female military division in the Ironman World
Championships (Kona, HI). In addition to her first‐place finishes,
LCDR Anderson furthered her successful year with a seventh‐place
finish (second in age group) in the Leading Ladies Marathon
(Spearfish, SD), which qualified her for the Boston Marathon. She's
also a finisher in the New York City Marathon. Off the racecourse,
LCDR Anderson spent countless hours aiding the Northern Virginia
athletic community by developing personalized training plans and
assisting new triathletes with training methods and bike handling
skills. She also volunteered at her local food bank to provide for
premature newborns and those in need during the pandemic formula
shortage.
4. The Coast Guard Elite Male Athlete of the Year is LCDR John Botti,
stationed at District Eleven (dpi), Alameda, CA.
5. LCDR Botti distinguished himself in the sport of running with
superior finishes in triathlon events. He represented the United
States during the Olympic Distance World Triathlon Championship
Finals in Abu Dhabi, finishing a respectable 33rd place among
worldwide competitors in his age group. LCDR Botti achieved a
divisional finish of 265th in the world at the Ironman 70.3 World
Championships in St. George, UT. In that event, he competed alongside
the current triathlon gold medalists and a field of Olympic and World
Championship‐level professional athletes. After qualifying at Ironman
Arizona, he posted another divisional finish placing 205th in the
world at the Ironman World Championships. His Ironman performances
earned him the designation as a 2022 Silver Ironman All‐World Athlete
for ranking top 5 percent in the world within his division in Ironman
competition. LCDR Botti participated in fundraising efforts during
the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon, where his team raised money for the
American Cancer Society. He continues a personal endeavor to raise
more than $5K for the 2023 Big Sur International Marathon's Semper Fi
and America's Fund team, supporting care for our nation's critically
wounded, ill, and injured servicemembers, veterans, and military
families.
6. The runner‐up Elite Female and Male Athletes are PO3 Adair
Gennocro, Base Alameda, for her achievements in triathlon and
marathon, and CPO Joseph D'Aleo, Coast Guard Band, for his
competitive shooting accomplishments.
7. Not only have these athletes distinguished themselves in their
respective sports, but they are outstanding role models on the job
and in their communities.
