SUBJ: UPDATE TO AIR OPERATIONS MANUAL TO AUTHORIZE ORIENTATION
FLIGHTS FOR POTENTIAL RECRUITS
A. Air Operations Manual, COMDTINST M3710.1I
1. This ALCOAST expands those personnel authorized in
chapter 5 of REF (A) to participate in operational orientation
flights aboard Coast Guard Aircraft to include potential Coast Guard
recruits. The authorization supports the Commandant's direction to
maximize recruiting efforts and increase the total number of Active
Duty Enlisted, Officer and Reserve members. Exposure to CG Air
Operations will certainly excite and energize the pool of potential
recruits by offering the unique opportunity to fly with our nation's
best aviators, flight mechanics and rescue swimmers. Units are
encouraged to capitalize on this interaction with potential recruits
by sharing feedback and results with COMDT (CG-711) and the
Recruiting-IMT. This is an exciting opportunity to support the Coast
Guard's recruiting effort and help fortify the service's future
workforce.
2. Insert paragraph G.4.n to chapter 5 of REF (A) to state:
"Potential Coast Guard Recruits. Any civilian within 3 years of
enlistment eligibility or has completed the freshman year of high
school may participate in operational orientation flights.
Candidates must receive a Coast Guard Recruiter's endorsement.
Recruiters will only endorse potential recruits that demonstrate
strong professionalism, social skills, and Coast Guard values.
Civilians under the age of 18 must obtain parental consent to
participate."
3. Operational orientation flights for potential recruits shall
comply with all restrictions published in REF (A).
4. These changes will be made to the next revision of REF (A),
which will be released within the next year.
5. This message is cancelled on 01 MAR 2024.
