NEWS

Commandant unveils first-ever Coast Guard Climate Framework 

  • Goal: Prepare the Coast Guard for changes like rising sea levels, more frequent severe weather, migrating fish stocks, retreating polar ice, and coastal infrastructure damage
  • Framework focuses on preparedness, resilience and collaboration

Coast Guard launches new cyber mission rating

  • CMS is the first new rating in eight years.
  • “We’re providing members a stable and sustainable career path with immediate advancement opportunities”
  • Lateral change-in-ratings will start June 1
  • All ratings can apply starting next year

New law allows Coast Guard spouses to transfer job licenses

  • Goal: Make it easier for active duty spouses to continue working after they PCS
  • States must now recognize military members and spouses’ professional licenses from other states
  • One exception: law licenses
  • Remember: Coast Guard also reimburses up to $1K for licensing or transfer of licensing due to PCS orders

  • CAPT Patrick Culver retiring this summer
  • Eligibility: Designated a permanent cutterman prior to 25 JUNE 1999; have 10 years sea duty (at least five as a commissioned officer), and will remain AD for at least a year
