Coast Guard repatriates 187 people to Cuba

MIAMI — Coast Guard Cutters Angela McShan and Pablo Valents' crews repatriated 187 migrants to Cabanas, Cuba, Monday, following interdictions off Florida's coast.
Coast Guard Cutter Pablo Valent's crew alerted Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant chug, Jan. 1, at approximately 8:30 p.m., about 36 miles south of Key West.
A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations law enforcement aircrew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Jan. 1, at approximately 9 p.m., about 20 miles south of Dry Tortugas National Park.
Coast Guard Cutter Seahorse's crew alerted Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Jan. 2, at approximately 4 a.m., about 12 miles south of Marquesas Key.
A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Jan. 2, at approximately 7 a.m., 28 miles southwest of Marquesas Key.
A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations law enforcement boat crew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Jan. 2, at approximately 12 p.m., about 1 mile off of Duck Key.
A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant chug, Jan. 2, at approximately 3 p.m., in vicinity of Key West.
A Coast Guard Station Key West rescue crew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Jan. 2, at approximately 4 p.m., 17 miles south of Sugarloaf Key.
A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Jan. 2, at approximately 7 p.m., 63 miles south of Dry Tortugas National Park.
Coast Guard Cutter Pablo Valent's crew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Tuesday, at approximately 9 a.m., about 101 miles south of Dry Tortugas National Park.
A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Tuesday, at approximately 9 a.m., 85 miles southwest of Key West.
A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations law enforcement aircrew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Tuesday, at approximately 1 p.m., about 23 miles south of Islamorada.
A Coast Guard Station Islamorada rescue crew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Wednesday, at approximately 10 a.m., 2 miles south of Islamorada.
A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, Wednesday, at approximately 11 a.m., 22 miles south of Big Pine Key.
“Coast Guard crews and our partner agencies continue to patrol the Florida Straits maintaining a presence with air and sea assets each and every day," said Lt. Cmdr. Mark Cobb, Coast Guard District Seven. "Our crews diligently patrol the region to prevent people from losing their lives in these dangerous attempts."
Since Oct. 1, 2022, Coast Guard crews interdicted 4,881 Cubans compared to:
- 6,182 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2022
- 838 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2021
- 49 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2020
- 313 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2019
- 259 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2018
- 1,468 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2017
- 5,396 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2016
Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.
