1. This ALCOAST announces the promulgation of REF (A) and the
cancellation of REF (B).
2. No new policy has been established with this update; REF (A)
only consolidates changes that have already been promulgated.
REF (A) contains 17 doctrine and policy updates that have been
released since 2012 by either policy memo or ALCOAST Commandant's
Notice (ACN). In addition, REF (A) contains several key
administrative corrections, which do not impact the Coast Guard
SAR System in a substantive manner, but were necessary for
clarity and consistency with other instructions. A complete
list of major changes is included in Appendix P of REF (A).
3. This edition of REF (A) has been issued as an interim update.
A major revision effort, which includes breaking REF (A) into
three distinct volumes plus additional tactics, techniques, and
procedures publications, is anticipated to be complete in FY24.
