SUBJ: RELEASE OF SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH POLICY STATEMENTS
A. Safety and Environmental Health Manual, COMDTINST M5100.47D
1. This ALCOAST announces the release of the Commandant's Safety
and Environmental Health Policy Statements. These policy
statements establish senior leadership expectations for safety and
mission execution, and must be used to manage unit-level safety
policy and foster an effective safety culture.
2. The Commandant's Safety and Environmental Health policy statement
charges every commanding officer, officer-in-charge, supervisor,
team lead, and team member with ensuring sound risk management
principles are embedded into the planning and execution of every
Coast Guard activity. Proactive hazard mitigation without fear of
reprisal, coupled with leveraging errors and lessons learned as
teachable moments builds an environment of trust which is integral
to our safety culture.
3. The Commandant's Occupational Safety and Health Protection for
Members of the United States Coast Guard policy statement outlines
service and personnel responsibilities in accordance with the OSHA
Act. Per 29 CFR Part 1960, this policy statement shall be
conspicuously posted in place or places where notices to employees
are customarily posted at each unit.
