HOUSTON — The Coast Guard and Texas Game Wardens are scheduled to discuss boating under the influence, impart safety tips and offer boat rides during a media event in Seabrook, Texas, Friday.

A Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston subject matter expert, Coast Guard Station Houston boarding officer and Texas Game Wardens will be available for interviews to discuss Operation Dry Water, laws and penalties pertaining to boating under the influence, and boating safety tips for July Fourth weekend.

Station Houston personnel and Texas Game Wardens will also offer boat rides for media members.

According to the Coast Guard's 2021 Recreational Boating Statistics report, alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents. In 2021, alcohol was the primary contributing factor in 247 recreational boating accidents, 186 boating injuries and 86 boating deaths nationwide. In Texas, alcohol was the primary contributing factor in 18 accidents, 21 injuries and seven deaths in 2021.
