SUBJ: AY23 ME SOLICITATION FOR CGIS PROTECTIVE SERVICE DETAIL
A. Military Assignment and Authorized Absences, COMDTINST M1000.8A
1. This message solicits candidates and outlines the application
process for members interested in an assignment to the Commandant’s
CGIS Protective Service Detail (PSD).
2. Job Description: PSD is a rewarding and demanding position that
frequently requires long, irregular hours and adherence to high personal
and physical standards. At the same time, it offers unique opportunities
for personal and professional development.
a. The PSD works under the supervision of CGIS Special Agents as part
of a protective team, performing advance work, protective service
operations, domestic and overseas travel, in addition to driving the
Commandant and Vice Commandant.
b. Members complete formal training in protective service operations,
maintain qualification on firearms and use of force in accordance with
CGIS standards.
c. Members assigned to the PSD earn the Protective Service Agent
competency and receive specialized training, credentials, special
duty assignment pay, civilian clothing allowance, and authorization
to wear the Commandants Staff ID Badge.
d. All special agents are required to have a favorable SSBI and
maintain eligibility for a top secret security clearance throughout
the assignment process.
e. Satisfactory completion of a tour at the PSD will result in
an assignment priority four.
3. Eligibility requirements: All members who are tour complete in
AY23 in pay grade E4-E5 who meet the following criteria are highly
encouraged to apply:
a. Meet the minimum standards for Special Assignments as specified in
paragraph 1.E.2 of Ref A.
b. Certified Boarding Officer (OPSBO).
c. GGPD with completed police academy training.
d. Tactical Operator (DSF-TO) is the preferred competency for assignment.
4. Applicants Package: Applicants must submit a complete package to
the ME AO, via email, with the following four (4) attachments:
a. Applicant Memorandum, not to exceed one page, explaining why
you desire assignment to protective duty detail. You may want to include
education, experiences, or personal attributes that may be relevant
to the PSD position.
b. Command Endorsement Memorandum specifically addressing all eligibility
requirements per para 3. Recommend Commands refer to the Special
Assignments Minimum Standard Checklist on the EPM-2
Special Assignment AO portal page under Standard Applications:

c. Additional topics may include member’s performance, professionalism,
interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
d. Signed Credit Disclosure Authorization Form (DHS form 11000-9).
e. Questionnaire for National Security Positions (SF-86) should be completed
via eQIP and saved as a PDF file. Completed questionnaire should NOT be
submitted to CSO unless selected for the position and advised to submit.
SF-86 form is acceptable for those with limited connectivity.
