SUBJ: MODERNIZATION OF COAST GUARD ALERT WARNING SYSTEM (AWS) AND
COAST GUARD ACCOUNTABILITY AND ASSESSMENT SYSTEM (CGPAAS)
A. Use and Management of the Alert and Warning System (AWS),
COMDTINST 2080.1 (series)
B. Personnel Accountability System (PAS) Policy COMDTINST 3006.4
(series)
1. This message provides an update on the transition from AWS 2.0
to AWS 3.0 for both the internal AWS system, AWS Enterprise (AWS-E)
and external AWS system; AWS Port Partners (AWS-PP). This transition
satisfied required security updates to the system but also resulted
in significant challenges. During the software migration process, we
experienced several members' data failing to properly update,
particularly when changing units. This problem has been addressed
but additional data issues have occurred recently, including members
receiving messages for outside their AOR and data not transferring
to CGPAAS correctly.
2. TRAINING. There are significant differences between AWS 2.0 and
3.0 that led to erroneously distributed alert messages. In an
effort to minimize the impact of erroneously transmitted alerts,
training is being offered by the C5ISC Application Support team.
This training reviews many of the new features that are offered by
AWS 3.0 and provides in depth explanation on AWS implementation and
how to tailor to specific unit needs. To request training, please
use the CGFIXIT Console; from the BMC Service Request Management
screen, click on the Training & Information link, click on the
Training Request Form and select Request Now. Then filling out the
required form, click Submit.
3. NOTIFICATIONS. AWS only sends messages from specified telephone
numbers and it is important for members to receive and respond when
needed to these messages. The phone numbers used by AWS are the
following: (650) 685-3000, (703) 857-7155, (833) 405-4260,
(833) 391-5700, or (972) 454-1990. The numbers that AWS uses for
text/SMS are the following: 28462 or 73101. It is recommended to add
these phone numbers to your contacts to ensure you receive the
informational AWS messages and CGPAAS accountability messages.
CGPAAS is designed to make our accountability system more efficient,
but requires everyone to respond. To receive text messages, please
ensure that your phone number in Direct Access includes your active
cell phone number associated with the phone type of "Mobile Phone."
4. MOBILE APPLICATION. AWS now has an app that members can download.
For instruction on how to do this go to Portal at:
(Copy and Paste URL Below into Browser)

https://cg.portal.uscg.mil/communities/aws/AWSEnterprise/
AWS%20Mobile%20App%20Guide/AWS_Mobile_App_Guide.pdf

The app will allow for members to receive and respond to alerts and
is another method to send messages. Additionally information can be
found on the AWS Portal page.
5. ACTION. Members are reminded to update their data in Direct
Access (DA), DEERS, and EDMS on a routine basis to ensure the
correct personal data is captured in both CGPAAS and AWS. Links to
DA, DEERS, and EDMS can be located on the Pixel Dashboard.
6. POCs: The CG HQ CGPAAS and AWS-E POC is LCDR Lina Anderson at
202-475-5017 or Lina.R.Anderson@uscg.mil. The CG HQ AWS-PP POC is
Mr. Rogers Henderson at 202-372-1105 or Rogers.W.Henderson@uscg.mil.
7. Dr. D. M. Navarro, Acting, Assistant Commandant for Human
Resources, (CG-1), sends.
8. Internet release is authorized.
