SUBJ: ANNOUNCEMENT OF MILITARY MENTORS FOR THE 2022 SENATE
YOUTH PROGRAM
1. The Department of Defense (DoD) has announced the selected
military mentors for the 60th annual U.S. Senate Youth
Program (USSYP) for 06-09 March 2022. This educational experience
is for outstanding high school juniors and seniors interested in
pursuing careers in public service and personifies one of the
longest standing commitments of the Office of the Secretary of
Defense to a national youth program. Selected military mentors are
ambassadors of the Armed Forces. They serve as role models for an
impressionable group of high-achieving, influential young Americans
and present a unique opportunity for these Senate Youth Program
participants to gain a better understanding of the Coast Guard's
and Department of Defense's missions, people, and lifestyles.
2. The Coast Guard received 18 applications and forwarded 16 to
the DoD. All were
strong candidates. We are confident each Service will be proud of
the superb military mentors selected, and the mentors should be
proud to know they were selected from an elite group of their peers.
3. All officers must possess permissive TDY/TAD orders or be in a
"leave" status during the period assigned at no cost to the
government. The event will be hosted completely online this year.
Therefore, military mentors will be required to have dedicated
access to a personal computer with high-speed internet, webcam, and
microphone in an appropriate area free of distraction.
4. The Coast Guard congratulates everyone selected by DoD to serve
as military mentors. The following officers will represent our
service:
a. LCDR Roberto Concepcion, Base NCR;
b. LCDR Megan Concepcion, CGRC-ME;
c. LCDR Alexandra Miller, Sector San Francisco; and
d. LT Nathan Borders, American Embassy Tegucigalpa.
5. The selection process was very competitive. I commend all
nominees and supervisors for taking the time to submit such
high-caliber nominations.
6. Questions regarding the USSYP may be directed to
Gwenda Bradford, COMDT (CG-0923) at: Gwenda.E.Bradford@uscg.mil.
7. RDML M. M. Dean, Director, Governmental and Public Affairs
(CG-092), sends.
8. Internet release is authorized.
