1. The 33rd Annual Women in Aviation International (WAI) Conference
will be held 17-19 March 2022, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and
Conference Center, in Nashville, TN. The conference is hosted by
Women in Aviation International, a nonprofit organization dedicated
to the encouragement and advancement of women in all aviation career
fields and interests.
2. The purpose of this annual conference is to foster education,
career development, as well as provide networking and mentoring
opportunities to members of the aviation community. Pending
conference approval, attendance is open to all active duty members
serving in, or seeking a career in aviation. Priority will be given
to first time attendees; all others will be considered based on
career path, experience, and potential benefit of attendance to the
member and their unit.
3. Building upon the success of 2021's virtual conference, there
will be two separate parts to the Coast Guard's portion of the
conference this year. The Office of Aviation Forces (CG-711) will
host a virtual professional development program prior to the
conference on 09 March 2022. The second portion will be in
conjunction with the WAI Conference. For those attending the in
person conference, on 17 March the program will focus on personal
development and leadership.
4. Those interested in attending the 09 March CG Programing should
email COMDT (CG-711) via the POC in Paragraph 9, Subject: CG PROGRAM
ATTENDEE, no later than 01 March 2022 to be added to the CG Teams
meeting. These sessions may be streamed publicly at the unit. An
agenda with topics and speakers will be released in February 2022.
5. IAW REFs (A) and (B), the Office of Aviation Forces, COMDT
(CG-711) is responsible to report all conference attendance and
costs. At this time, this conference has not been approved IAW
Section VI of REF (A). Commanding officers/OICs may select
candidates for attendance, but may not issue TDY orders for
personnel to attend until further notice. All attendance must be
coordinated in advance with COMDT (CG-711) to ensure travel costs
remain within guidelines. COMDT (CG-711) will reimburse units for
the registration fee for the unit's first attendee, but units will
fund all travel costs, and issue all travel orders for their
members. Commands may also issue unlimited no-cost permissive
orders IAW Chapter 2.A.10 of REF (C). Those attending on permissive
orders must notify COMDT (CG-711) via email to the POC in
paragraph 9 for accountability.
