SUBJ: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 2021 JEWISH INSTITUTE FOR NATIONAL
SECURITY OF AMERICA (JINSA) GRATEFUL NATION AWARD COAST GUARD
RECIPIENT
1. I am pleased to announce that Chief Warrant Officer Paul C. Bostwick, currently assigned to
CG Cyber Command in Washington, DC, has been selected for recognition as the Jewish Institute
for National Security of America Annual Grateful Nation Award Ceremony. The awards
ceremony will be held virtually and released via video in mid-to-late November 2021.
2. Chief Warrant Officer Bostwick deployed with Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron Two Five
(NCWRON 25) in support of Operations ENDURING FRREDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM from
August 2004 through March 2005 and was forward deployed at Camp Patriot, providing direct
support for joint forces engaged in the global fight against terrorism.
3. Then IT1 Bostwick was the Communications Watch Supervisor for NCWRON 25, whose
operational footprint included the ports at: Ash Shuaibah, Kuwait; the Iraqi Gas/Oil Platforms at
al Basrah and Khor al Amaya in the Northern Arabian Gulf; and supporting elements operating
from the port of Umm Qasar, Iraq in the north to port at Jebel Ali/UAE in the south. In this
capacity, he proved indispensable by supporting the FlyAway Tri-Band Satellite communications
terminal. His expertise with satellite communications enabled NCWRON 25 to conduct missions
safely and securely in support of Combined Task Force 152. As a deployed member of this group,
he played a crucial role in successful anti-terrorism and force protection for U.S. Navy and
coalition assets at sea, at ports, and on land. Furthermore, he directly supported command and
control efforts for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from September 2004 to March 2005,
including the Battalion Landing Team for their role in Operation PHANTOM FURY – The Battle
for Fallujah. Beyond his responsibilities while on duty, Mr. Bostwick engaged at a personal level,
by organizing team morale events and helping to produce the “Holiday Greetings From The
North Arabian Gulf DVD” for Kuwait Naval Base families. He was so committed to caring for
his teammates, that he was elected to serve as the President of the Kuwait Naval Base First Class
Petty Officers Association.
4. Beyond his service and recognition in the Middle East, he was competitively selected as the
Outstanding CWO of the Year in 2011 and nominated for the Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael J.
Novosel Award via the Reserve Officers Association. Furthermore, he was nominated for the
John G. Witherspoon Inspirational Leadership Award in 2016, and appeared the following year in
the Military Times as the runner-up for the Military Times’ Coast Guard Service Member of the
Year award. Representing a strong service reputation, he was selected to serve on the Reserve
Awards Board panel in 2010, and has twice been selected to serve on the IDPL CWO Promotion
Board (2014 and 2017). Additionally, he was a member of the Alexander Hamilton –
Commandant’s Quality Award inspection team. Lastly, he received the Military Outstanding
Volunteer Service Medal for his years of volunteer philanthropic work with the U.S. Naval Sea
Cadet Corps and Veterans of Foreign Wars from 2010 through 2015.
5. CWO4 Bostwick was the only Jewish service member to deploy from NCWRON25 in 2004.
He was, and continues to be, a role model for all members of CG Cyber Command and an
embodiment of the Coast Guard Core Values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.
