Coast Guard, Sarasota County Labor Day weekend water safety
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard and Sarasota Country Lifeguards encourage water safety on boats and beaches this Labor Day weekend.
The availability will address boating, water, and rip current safety ahead of the holiday weekend.

Who: Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Kameron Sidwell and Sarasota County Lifeguard Captain Roy Routh
When: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Where: U.S. Coast Guard Station Cortez, 4530 124th St Ct W, Bradenton, FL 34209.
PLEASE NOTE: Visitors to Station Cortez will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the last three days for entrance to the base. Masks must be worn.

The Coast Guard urges the boating public to use best practices while on the water including:
- Wear a lifejacket and ensure there are enough for everyone on board.
- Never boat under the influence, have a sober captain.
- Ask for a mariners license before taking a charter trip.
- File a float plan of where you are going and return time with someone you trust.
There are six lifeguarded beaches in Sarasota County:
- Lido Beach, 400 Benjamin Franklin Dr., Sarasota.
- Siesta Key Beach, 948 Beach Road, Sarasota.
- Nokomis Beach, 1000 Casey Key Road, Nokomis.
- North Jetty Beach, 1000 S. Casey Key Road, Nokomis.
- Venice Beach, 101 The Esplanade, Venice.
- Manasota Beach, 8570 Manasota Key Road, Englewood.
