SUBJ: COVID-19: REAFFIRMATION OF ISOLATION GUIDANCE FOR PERSONS
TESTING POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
A. COVID-19 PLANORD (V9) FRAGO (V2) Enclosure (2) Version 9
B. COVID-19 PLANORD (V9) FRAGO (V2) Enclosure (8) Version 5.1
C. COMDT COGARD WASHINGTON DC 261251Z JUL 21/ALCOAST 268/21
1. This ALCOAST affirms REFs (A) and (B).
2. This ALCOAST cancels and replaces REF (C).
2. The Coast Guard has recently seen an increase in reported cases
of COVID-19, coinciding with circulation of the highly contagious
Delta variant. These increases are both CONUS and OCONUS.
3. Three of every four cases reported within the Coast Guard
in the last month are among unvaccinated persons. Vaccination
remains our most powerful tool to prevent COVID-19 and the harms it
causes to health and mission readiness.
4. Although unvaccinated persons have a higher risk of spreading
the virus to others, vaccinated persons (breakthrough cases)
can also transmit the virus to their contacts.
5. Pursuant to REF (A), military members that test positive for
COVID-19 or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must isolate
themselves for a period of 10 days from either the onset of
symptoms, or the date of the positive test. COs may order military
members into isolation if the member refuses to isolate on their
own.
6. Pursuant to REF (B), Commanding Officers may direct civilian
personnel that test positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing
COVID-19 symptoms to remain away from Coast Guard workspaces for 14
days or as long as necessary to keep the workspace safe. COs may
advise those civilian personnel directed to remain away from the
work place due to symptoms or exposure to practice social distancing
by remaining 6 feet away from people outside the home and to refrain
from traveling, visiting public/crowded areas, and using public
transportation. Civilian personnel may be required to take personal
leave depending on the place of exposure. Contact your servicing
Human Resources Specialist to determine the proper leave to use.
7. The requirements for isolation contained in REFs (A) and (B)
apply to both vaccinated and unvaccinated personnel, regardless of
whether or not the individual is experiencing symptoms. Further
guidance on isolation requirements can be found in REF (B) located
