Coast Guard medevacs mariner from tanker 8 miles off Freeport, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 31-year-old mariner from a tanker vessel approximately 8 miles off Freeport, Texas, Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a call at approximately 9:30 a.m. from the tanker vessel Stolt Confidence stating a crew member was having chest pains and difficulty breathing. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.

A Coast Guard Station Freeport 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew launched to assist.

The boat crew arrived on scene, embarked the man and transported him back to awaiting emergency medical services at the station. The mariner was reportedly in stable condition.

"I’m incredibly proud of my crew's quick response today," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jimmie Boothe, coxswain during the case. "I’m honored and take a lot of pride in being a part of this team."
