WHO: Members of Coast Guard Station Galveston, Galveston Island Beach Patrol
WHAT: Interviews on rip current safety, rescue demonstrations
WHEN: 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021
WHERE: Seawall Boulevard and 17th Street, Galveston, Texas, 77550
HOUSTON — Members of the Coast Guard and Galveston Island Beach Patrol are scheduled to provide interviews on rip current safety in Galveston, Texas, Friday.
Coast Guard Station Galveston crew members and Peter Davis, chief of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, will discuss local rip current and water hazards and recommend safety practices for July Fourth weekend.
Subject matter experts will provide interviews in both English and Spanish.
Additionally, Galveston Island Beach Patrol lifeguards will demonstrate rip current rescues and lifesaving techniques.
Six open-water drownings have occurred in Galveston so far this summer.
