NEW ORLEANS -- Cmdr. William Blair relieved Capt. Patrick Dill during a change of command ceremony for Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, Tuesday.

Rear Adm. John Nadeau, commander, Coast Guard Eighth District, presided over the ceremony.

Blair earned his commission in 2001 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2003. He was formerly the operations officer at Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida.

Dill was designated a Coast Guard Aviator in 2003 and was an executive officer at Air Station New Orleans before fleeting up to commanding officer.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans supports a wide range of Coast Guard operations to include search and rescue, law enforcement, port security, and marine environmental protection. Air Station New Orleans area of responsibility ranges from Apalachicola, Florida to the Louisiana/Texas border, north to Memphis, Tennessee and into the Gulf of Mexico.

The change of command ceremony is a historic military tradition representing the formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit from one commanding officer to another. The event reinforces the continuity of command and provides an opportunity to celebrate the crew's accomplishments.
