Media Availability: Coast Guard Marine Safety Task Force, Alaska Army National Guard team up for 2021 Bristol Bay deployment

WHO: Members from the Coast Guard Sector Anchorage Marine Safety Task Force and Alaska Army National Guard Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment.

WHAT: Members from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Task Force and Alaska Army National Guard Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment, will conduct interviews before departing from Joint Base Elmendorf/Richardson to Bristol Bay on a joint operation to provide commercial fishing vessel safety exams prior to the salmon season opening. There will be B-roll opportunities for aircraft and personnel preparation and takeoff.

WHEN: Monday, June 14, 8:30 a.m. Media attending must meet sponsor at the Richardson gate visitor’s center no later than 8:30 a.m. 

WHERE: Richardson gate at Joint Base Elmendorf/Richardson. From Richardson gate visitor center, media will be escorted to runway where interviews will be conducted.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Coast Guard inspectors with the Marine Safety Task Force (MSTF) will partner with Alaska Army National Guard for the first time ever on a Bristol Bay deployment in support of the region’s commercial fishing season.

Alaska Army National Guard is flying Coast Guard members from Joint Base Elmendorf/Richardson to communities in the Bristol Bay region for maritime safety missions. Their will be opportunities for aircraft preparation and personnel B-roll.

“This is a team effort,” said Cmdr. Jereme Altendorf, an emergency management specialist at Coast Guard Sector Anchorage whose duties focus on Arctic issues. “We’re fortunate to be teaming up with the Alaska Army National Guard and the Air Force’s Civil Air Patrol for transportation in Western Alaska. They are an invaluable part of this operation.”
