SUBJ: 2021 SOCIETY OF AMERICAN INDIAN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES (SAIGE)
MILITARY MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD
1. This ALCOAST solicits nominations for the 2021 Society of
American Indian Government Employees (SAIGE) Military Meritorious
Service Award. The award honors members of the military and
military veterans in government service for the performance period
January 2019 to March 2021.
2. All Coast Guard service members, active duty and reserve, as
well as Coast Guard civilian employees who are veterans, are
eligible for the SAIGE Military Meritorious Service Award.
3. Nominees who made significant contributions in the following
areas will be evaluated:
a. Supported the Coast Guard's government to government
interaction with American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) tribes.
This level of interaction must have been unique and above the
level normally expected by the position of the nominee.
b. Promoted a greater understanding of the AI/AN culture
through their personal actions on and/or off duty. Nominations
should provide specific examples and explain how the actions
advanced a positive image for AI/AN.
c. Promoted a positive image of AI/AN in government service.
d. Reflected attributes best epitomizing the qualities and Core
Values of the Coast Guard.
4. All nominees must have demonstrated support for inclusion and
promotion of all government personnel.
5. Nomination packages must include the following:
a. Narrative describing the nominee's accomplishments with
regard to award criteria, not to exceed two pages.
b. Citation highlighting the accomplishments of the nominee,
not to exceed 12 lines.
c. Biography of the nominee, not to exceed one page.
d. Digital photograph of the nominee in .jpg format.
e. Command cover memo, with signature, forwarding the package.
f. Award nomination transmittal form. For a copy of this form,
please contact the Point of Contact (POC) below.
g. For nominations of a veteran, within the award nomination
transmittal form, include a statement attesting that the veteran
separated from service under honorable conditions.
6. Items a. through c. of paragraph 5 must be in MS Word 12-point
font, single-spaced with one-inch left and right margins.
These documents may not be scanned or in .pdf format. Do not
include Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in nomination
packages.
7. Nomination packages must be forwarded as email attachments to
the POC no later than July 12, 2021. COMDT (CG-00H) will send all
nominations to SAIGE for consideration and final selection. The
command of the award recipient will be notified by email prior to
announcement of the results to the workforce. Award winners will be
recognized during the SAIGE virtual event on September 15, 2021.
