Coast Guard to hold media engagement to discuss beach, boating safety for National Safe Boating Week in Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is scheduled to hold a media engagement event Tuesday to discuss beach and boating safety for National Safe Boating Week in Galveston, Texas.

National Safe Boating Week is a week-long annual campaign for the Coast Guard and port partners to emphasize the importance of safe boating practices and the use of boating safety equipment. National Safe Boating Week lasts from May 22-28. 

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston search and rescue subject matter experts will be available for interviews to help keep the public informed of safe beach and boating practices as weather conditions improve.

The information discussed will include general beach and boating safety tips such as life jacket regulations, kayak identification decals, filing a float plan, and rip and tidal currents. The topics covered will inform the public as to what they can do to enhance their safety while enjoying the water.
