Coast Guard conducts maritime security exercise near Fox Island, WA

TACOMA, Wash. — The Coast Guard will be conducting a maritime security exercise Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Toliva Shoal near Fox Island in Puget Sound.

The exercise will include the use of pyrotechnics and blank ammunition to create a realistic training environment. This exercise is being conducted to ensure the Coast Guard remains responsive, proficient and prepared to protect the public and greater maritime transportation system from foreign and domestic threats.

No person or vessel may enter or remain within 1,000 yards of any vessel involved in Coast Guard exercises between Gibson Point and the Steilacoom Ferry Terminal unless authorized by the Coast Guard Captain of the Port.

To request permission to transit the restricted exercise area, mariners should contact the on-scene patrol commander via VHF-FM radio channels 16 or 22A, or call Sector Puget Sound Joint Harbor Operations Center at 206-217-6002.
