SUBJ: COAST GUARD ALERT AND WARNING SYSTEM (AWS) 3.0 MIGRATION
A. Use and Management of the Alert and Warning System (AWS),
COMDTINST 2080.1 (series)
1. The Coast Guard Alert and Warning System (AWS) 3.0 for both
AWS Enterprise (AWS-E) and AWS Port Partners (AWS-PP) will be
officially migrated to initial operating capability (IOC) in
the next week. AWS 2.0 and 3.0 will run in parallel until AWS
3.0 reaches full operating capability (FOC) at a period of
approximately 60 days from IOC. During this time, AWS 2.0
personnel data will not be updated as work to reach AWS 3.0 FOC
continues. AWS 3.0 functions much more quickly than AWS 2.0 and
is accessible through all browsers on the CG workstation. AWS 3.0
offers a more modern operator experience due to its new streamlined
user interface. An AWS 3.0 email alert body now offers up to 4,000
characters compared to 2,000 in AWS 2.0. AWS 3.0 also includes an
enterprise function which allows operators to send alerts to all
users within their hierarchy. This will be particularly important
to operators above the CG sector level. The enterprise function is
accessed through changing an operator's organization within AWS 3.0,
similarly to how multiple organization operators have in AWS 2.0.
Note that distribution lists are not available at the enterprise
level, alert templates must be tailored to meet the previous need
of distribution lists at the enterprise level. Distribution lists
are still available at the organization/individual virtual private
system (VPS) levels. Lastly, AWS 3.0 offers all alerting and response
options of to include return of the mobile app. It is recommended
that all CG personnel download and use the mobile app due to its
high functionality and no cost communication to the CG.
2. Certain field unit’s accounts, distribution lists, and alert
templates may have been deleted in order to upgrade to AWS 3.0.
All field units will need to assess their AWS 2.0 and AWS 3.0
discrepancies during this time. Field units will need to recreate
all custom distribution lists and alert templates from AWS 2.0 to
AWS 3.0. If assistance is required, please call CGFixIt at
1-855-2434-948, Option 3.
3. Prior to official migration, an alert will be sent out to all
AWS operators with instructions on how to access AWS 3.0 and AWS
2.0 due to the required changes to URL addresses. It is recommended
that all operators immediately migrate use to send alerts from
AWS 3.0 when it is live for historical documentation purposes.
Training materials, videos, and live webinar sessions can be
found on the AWS CG Portal Site at:
https://cg.portal.uscg.mil/communities/aws/SitePages/Home.aspx.
4. Verification of profiles and contact information is vital in
ensuring proper functionality of the system. Manually created
profiles such as contracting personnel and port partners will
need to be performed. Due to the major changes in the CG hierarchy,
additional alerts will be sent to all CG Contracting personnel who
will need to work with their military or civilian personnel
supervisors to enter in their correct department identification
into the AWS system. AWS-PP operators must also verify port partner
profiles and their contact information.
5. POCs. The CG HQ AWS-E POC is CWO4 Michael Carpenter at
202-475-5021 or Michael.V.Carpenter@uscg.mil; and LT Stephen Cheng
at 202-475-5017 or Stephen.C.Cheng@uscg.mil. The CG HQ AWS-PP POC
is Mr. Rogers Henderson at 202-372-1105 or
Rogers.W.Henderson@uscg.mil.
6. RADM J. M. Nunan, Assistant Commandant for Human Resources
(CG-1), sends.
7. Internet release is authorized.
