Media invited to interview Coast Guard and partner agencies on cold water safety, preparedness

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Representatives from Coast Guard Sector Virginia, the National Weather Service and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources will be available for in-person interviews on Thursday to discuss cold water safety measures as air temperatures rise while water temperatures remain cold throughout the region.

WHO: Representatives from Coast Guard Sector Virginia, National Weather Service, Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.

WHAT: Provide cold water safety measures and considerations for local boaters and paddlers.

WHEN: Media must RSVP no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, call Lt. Savannah Kuntz at 440-396-8643. Interview availability is scheduled for 2 p.m., March 18.

WHERE: Coast Guard Sector Virginia, 4000 Coast Guard Blvd., Portsmouth, Va., 23703

Every fall and winter, people are drawn back to their favorite boating activities. This time of year can be specifically hazardous as colder water temperatures can cause hypothermia much quicker should a boater find themselves in the water.

B-roll of cold water Coast Guard operations will also be made available upon RSVP.
