Media invited to virtually interview Coast Guard member on cold water safety, preparedness ***B-Roll Available***

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guard aviation survival technician from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J. will be available for a virtual interview Friday to discuss the safety measures they employ as air temperatures begin to rise while water temperatures remain cold.

WHO: Petty Officer 1st Class Tye Conklin, aviation survival specialist

WHAT: Provide insight into the training and experience relevant to the cold water rescues

WHEN: Media must RSVP no later than 8 a.m. Friday, March 12, call 757-513-2087.

Interviews will be available starting at 11 a.m., March 12

WHERE: Virtually through Zoom, from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City

Every spring, people are drawn back to their favorite boating activities. This time of year can be specifically hazardous as colder water temperatures can cause hypothermia much quicker should a boater find themselves in the water. Many more people may be out on the water this year as they seek more socially distant ways to enjoy the outdoors.

B-roll of cold water Coast Guard operations will also be made available upon RSVP.
