PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Coast Guard aviation survival technicians from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. will be available for a virtual interview Wednesday to discuss the safety measures they employ as the water temperatures decline along the Mid-Atlantic coastline.
WHO: Chief David Downham, aviation survival specialist
WHAT: Provide insight into the training and experience relevant to the cold water rescues
WHEN: Media must RSVP no later than 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, call 757-513-2087.
Interviews will be available starting at 1 p.m., Feb. 3.
WHERE: Virtually, from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City
Every fall and winter, people are drawn back to their favorite boating activities. This time of year can be specifically hazardous as colder water temperatures can cause hypothermia much quicker should a boater find themselves in the water. Many more people may be out on the water this year as they seek more socially distant ways to enjoy the outdoors.
B-roll of cold water Coast Guard operations will also be made available upon RSVP.
