2020 UPDATE
1. The SWE Process Improvement Team recommended establishing a bank of EPME questions to assist
the enlisted workforce in preparing for SWE competitions. This bank is now available as part of a pilot
program to determine its effectiveness and impact on SWE scores. It contains over 500 EPME-related
questions and is available on the EPME CG Portal page at the following URL:
https://cg.portal.uscg.mil/communities/erats/EPME/SitePages/Home.aspx
2. Answers are not provided; however, the bank contains questions based on current EPME
Performance Qualifications (EPQs) and will be used to generate questions for the May 2021 SWE and
subsequent SWE competitions. This initiative and the generation of EPME updates were conducted
concurrently. Outdated questions and references were removed. The SWE Process Improvement Team
is dedicated to ensuring the enlisted workforce is armed with the most current professional military
knowledge and a core set of knowledge requirements as the Coast Guard pursues a Mission Ready Total
Workforce.
3. The required section size on the SWE will remain as described below.
   a. Rating Performance Qualifications (RPQs)
     E-5, 120 test items
     E-6/E-7, 125 test items
     E-8, 80 test items
   b. EPQs
     E-5, 30 test items
     E-6/E-7, 25 test items
     E-8, 70 test items
4. All advancement requirements, SWE dates, and procedures outlined in references A through E remain
in effect.
